Introduction

Dear Parents,

Thank you for joining Saint Andrew Academy!

About this handbook

The purpose of this handbook is to set forth who we are, what we do, and how we do it, and what we expect of students and families. The Founding Document starts with the “Big Picture.” Please read this first. The Parent Student Handbook follows next, giving direction on our policies. Finally, there is an Appendix containing an even more extensive set of policies for less common circumstances.

Thank you for working with us to enact a beautiful education for our children and (God willing) our children’s children. This is an effort for now and until the Kingdom comes. May God bless us.

Dr. Keith Buhler

Why start a school?

It’s not hard to explain the amazing growth of classical Christian education in the US over the last 30 years: the culture is deteriorating around us.

Public and even private schools follow the broader culture. At schools, students learn fads and folly that would have horrified our ancestors. In the US, Protestant and Catholic Christianity once held the day in universities like Harvard and Yale, in public office, in media and news, in business and in public life. In this present darkness, our mother, the Holy Orthodox Church is uniquely poised to be the good leaven for our culture. May God grant us the grace to become holy, and to shine a light that restores sanity, rationality, the pursuit of virtue to America.

It all starts with one child, a teacher, and a quality curriculum, and a mission.

Serving the Holy Trinity under the guidance of the Holy Orthodox Church, our mission is to offer students an excellent classical Christian education, cultivating the love of God and of neighbor and empowering them to reach their God-given intellectual, spiritual, moral, and physical potential.
